Short Description:

Assists Ophthalmologist and other technical support personnel, under close supervision and in an entry-level capacity, to perform diagnostic tests and measurements necessary for evaluation of patient eye problems. Obtains medical and personal data for ophthalmology patient charts. Instructs patients about medications, tests, and procedures. Instructs patient in care and use of corrective lenses. Performs ophthalmologic tests necessary for preliminary and highly specific eye exams including, but not limited to, central and peripheral visual field tests, simple color vision tests, indentation, and applanation tonometry tests to determine intraocular pressure and pupil testing for size, equality and reaction prior to dilation. Administers eye medications. Assists the Physician to fit patients with contact lenses. Assists in ophthalmic surgery, and maintains ophthalmic and surgical instruments, as well as office equipment. Cleans and stocks consultation rooms and microbiology laboratory with drugs and other supplies as needed.
