Short Description:

A CPC reviews and adjudicates coding of services, procedures, and diagnoses on medical claims, thus improving the finances and operational efficiency. Coders are medical records and health information technicians that specialize in “codifying” patient records for insurance purposes. Certain medical procedures and diagnoses are assigned codes that will determine the amount a health care provider will be reimbursed by the patient’s health insurance company. There are many different coding systems used by coders. Depending on the facility in which they work, coders may be responsible for using coding systems for emergency services or long-term care services. CPC candidates are required to have passed the AAPC-administered exam.
